At Kustom Skis, we have always believed that technical equipment can make the difference between an efficient intervention and a critical situation in the mountains. That's why we are especially proud to announce a milestone for our brand: we have developed and manufactured the touring skis used by the GREIM (Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group) of the Spanish Civil Guard in their winter operations.
Expert confidence
The GREIM represents the elite of mountain rescue in Spain. Their physical, technical, and mental preparation is matched to the most demanding environments: snow, ice, fog, steep slopes, difficult access... Every minute counts, and the equipment they use must be up to the task . Therefore, Kustom Skis is honored that they have placed their trust in our products for their rescue and relief operations.

What does developing skis for the GREIM entail?
Designing skis for a rescue unit like GREIM goes far beyond recreational or competitive skiing. It means meeting a series of very specific technical requirements:
-
Lightness and resistance : to facilitate mobility with minimal effort, without compromising the durability of the material.
-
Performance in all types of snow : from powder snow to crust, including ice or transformed snow.
-
Reliability in extreme conditions : low temperatures, intensive use, load transport, carrying sections...
-
Adaptability to professional ski mountaineering : compatible with technical bindings, climbing skins and maneuverability on mixed terrain.
At Kustom, we combine years of experience in handcrafted manufacturing with innovation in high-performance materials, which has allowed us to respond precisely to these needs.
A development process that meets the challenge
To arrive at the ultimate ski used today by GREIM, we at Kustom Skis traveled a demanding path, as challenging as the mountains themselves. We knew that a good product wasn't enough: it had to be the best possible ski for its mission .

The process included the creation of three different prototypes , each refined based on real-world testing in demanding winter conditions. In each iteration, we adjusted key elements:
-
Structural reinforcements : we incorporate different carbon fiber configurations to achieve the perfect balance between stiffness, lightness and torsional strength.
-
Top sheets : we test different materials and finishes to offer durability under heavy use and extreme conditions, without sacrificing performance or grip.
-
Continuous feedback : we work in direct contact with the GREIM professionals, integrating their practical experience and suggestions after each field test.
Each image accompanying this blog shows a stage of development. They illustrate the evolution of skis, from their earliest forms to the final model, the result of a fusion between precision engineering and on-the-ground experience .
This process not only allowed us to perfect the product, but it also reinforced our commitment to continuous improvement and confirmed something we've always believed: when you listen to the end user and test under real-world conditions, the result is unbeatable.
Beyond the product: a collaboration that reinforces values
This collaboration with the GREIM is not just a technical validation, but also an alliance of values : commitment, reliability, preparedness, respect for the mountains, and a dedication to service. That a unit like the GREIM uses our skis is a clear sign that what we manufacture not only performs well, but also fulfills a critical function when it's most needed .

One more step in our journey
This project marks a turning point for us. It motivates us to continue evolving, designing, and manufacturing top-level technical equipment, not only for demanding athletes but also for professionals who need complete confidence in their gear.
At Kustom Skis, we don't just make skis. We create precision tools for those who challenge the limits of the mountain every day.
